Monstera obliqua is mostly found near sea level, while the incredibly rare Monstera xanthospatha occurs from altitudes of 1400 to 2500 meters. The three Central American species of Monstera with similar altitude ranges do not show close relationship to Monstera xanthospatha. The species has clearly not arisen from a high-altitude species, but has evolved from some lowland ancestor.

Monstera xanthospatha is a climbing plant that uses its aerial roots to attach itself to tree trunks, so we recommend a good moss pole. It can grow to impressive heights when it has something to climb on, making it an impressive sight in its natural environment. The plant can reach heights of up to 10 meters or more in its natural habitat.

Botanical Description

Scientific Name: Monstera xanthospatha

Extinction risk: Endangered

Origin: Colombia

The leaves of Monstera xanthospatha are its most prominent feature. They are large, heart-shaped and often deeply lobed with distinct, light green veins that contrast with the dark green surface of the leaves. The structure and shape of the leaves make them very decorative and unique.

Care.

Monstera xanthospatha thrives best in specially adapted aroid soil . Indirect light is recommended but can also tolerate shady conditions. However, too much light can damage the leaves. Monstera thrives in high humidity and needs to climb on something to reach its full potential. Buy Monstera xanthospatha online and add this unusual species to your collection!

Gorgeous book
Format: Board book
This is one of our favorite books. The illustrations are stunning. It's a total work of art! And the story about changing seasons is lovely. I like that it's a quick read but that there's more than a word or two per page. My 13-month old really loves this book, and because I love it so much too, I always encourage her to bring it over for a read!

beautiful illustrations
Format: Board book
The story is nice, but the real magic is in the illustrations. As a parent, I adore reading this book just for the illustrations; each page is a work of art. Most of the story is about winter, so we are reading it a great deal now (December) to discuss wildlife and how they prepare for winter.

Another classic by Il Sung Na
Format: Board book
Il Sung Na is one of my favorite children's book authors/illustrators. The illustrations are whimsical and fun, the text is simple and colorful. This book is very similar in concept to his Book of Sleep as it chronicles a rabbit looking on as various animals respond to the changing seasons. My daughter loves this book, as well as the Book of Sleep and Opposite Zoo.
